Clifton Park Cares about Open Spaces

Keeping nature a part of our community has always been important in Clifton Park, and residents, landowners and visitors to town have benefited from the dedication of three major areas of public and private partners’ support:

Town of Clifton Park

  • Your Local Government:
  • The Clifton Park Town Board ensures that parks, nature preserves, public trails, are available as an important quality of life framework for the community.
  • Town lands are maintained by the Buildings & Grounds Department.
  • Recreational programs are managed by the Parks, Recreation & Community Affairs Department.
  • Stewardship plans for large town parks and nature preserves are developed in consultation with the Open Space, Trails & Riverfront Committee.
  • Park districts also play a key role in the management of the special natural areas and parkland in their neighborhoods.

Clifton Park Open Space, Trails and Riverfront Committee

Established by the Town of Clifton Park in 2000, the appointed Open Space, Trails and Riverfront Committee is an advisory group that provides input to the Town Board and town departments.  The volunteers on the committee work on a number of initiatives:

  • implementing the 2003 Open Space Plan of a town-wide vision and goals for conservation,
  • individual site stewardship & management plans,
  • promoting farmland conservation and local and regional farming viability,
  • trails connectivity and a walkable / bikeable community,
  • support for outside grants and funding opportunities,
  • regional trails and conservation projects with neighboring communities and organizations, and,
  • provide ongoing support for public events.

You

Clifton Park’s public lands and waters have benefited from the ongoing private support of town residents, organizations and businesses.

  • The Town of Clifton Park Open Space, Trails & Riverfront Committee meetings are open to the public and you are welcome to attend.  Meeting dates and locations are posted on the town’s main website, www.cliftonpark.org and this site’s Events page.

What People Say

We invite everyone to visit the many parks and natural areas in Clifton Park.  Since 2000, the Town Board has permanently preserved more than 1,200 acres, creating a scenic, diverse, recreational network that is now represented in every area of town.  Open space, parkland, trails connections, conserved farmland, historic landscapes, and nature preserves contribute greatly to our community’s quality of life, and these special places help grow property values.
